Data Insight
-We saw a surge in % of DAU using Streaks and Reading Progress starting Jan 1. This coincided with a spike in 7L7. Beyond that, it takes 4 taps to update reading progress through our lists feature.
Hypothesis
If we reduce the amount of taps to update reading progress, we have opportunity to create a retention habit that positively impacts trackers.
Outcome
~30% of our WAU are using this feature regularly, with a large uptick as users build their January ‘WTR’ lists in a new calendar year. Users continually cite that this feature is among the most delightful.
Experience
-
Users are updating progress daily. How do we integrate an easier-to-use feature into their daily experience on Fable?
-
Duolingo has hit the right mark in their daily tracking mechanism. Users delight in this for years. I repeat, years. In one of our early designs, we used a similar mechanism and internally, it resonated.
-
From the beginning, we wanted this to work for users who need to update simply 'I read today', but also users who read 250+ books a year who want to update their progress across multiple books, daily.
Next Steps
Beyond this project, we are launching a Streaks Widget this month, so you can update your streaks right from your home screen on iOS or Android.
